Amanda Leigh Evans (left) and Tia Kramer (right)DeepTime Collective (Amanda Leigh Evans and Tia Kramer), is two-person artist collective that unearths how individuals and communities understand themselves within the interdependent constructs of time and landscape. Our work explores how abstracted conceptions of time (the perceived linearity of timelines and calendars, the divisions of days into hours and minutes, and the commodification of workdays) influence how we orient to the landscapes and communities that surround us. We investigate how colonial tools for measuring time (time zones, mechanical clocks, timecards, and church bells) impose abstractions upon our embodied conception of time, encouraging us to see ourselves as separate from the histories and landscapes we inhabit. We observe how local and regional ecologies, through their seasonality and unique geographies, hold time beyond the clock, inviting us to envision ourselves as part of a broader lineage that extends beyond our lifetimes.
